Lounge and Dining Room

This room was originally the main kitchen. The house also had a working kitchen in the cellar with its own fireplace, large stone vat for the laundry and a bread oven.

Because of the wonderful fireplace, we decided this room would be our guest lounge, benefiting from one of the few original features left in the house after the fire. The 17 metre high chimney stack needed repair and re-lining - for which we called in the experts. With a powerful woodburner, the lounge offers an interesting and warming focal point.

A comfortable place to relax after a day out and somewhere to take your aperitif before enjoying your evening meal.

Above the fireplace is what Deni calls her 'groty pottery' collection, gathered from brocantes and quite at home on top of this huge stone mantel shelf.

The second fireplace, now our library corner, was where the cooker would have been and the shallow stone sink on the left was for washing the dishes.

Our nearest neighbours still have a sink like this for everyday use, but quite how you wash in a sink that only holds about 25mm of water, who knows.

Our ancient French Oak dining table can seat up to 12 people and we do our best to make the meals a social occasion.

You will have to put up with our company throughout the meal as there is no way we are going to cook all that interesting food and then not enjoy it ourselves.

We have met some wonderful people since opening Chez Jallot as a Chambres d'hôte and would not miss the evening meal for anything. We aim to produce typically French cuisine and enjoy searching for local specialities using seasonal produce, often grown in our Potager. The menus are changing constantly and eating here will delight your tastebuds.
