Kitchen

The kitchen has become our main living and work area, although we actually spend very little time sat down. The working end is spacious and one of the best features is the large granite topped island which houses the sink , dishwasher, vegetable racks and waste bins - and the all important wine rack.

The room has windows at each end, so is nice and bright with good lighting to work under. A dual fuel range cooker provides an excellent space to prepare meals for our guests. The Italian tiled floor and splash back are the work of our resident tiler.

The granite worktops were bought locally and fitted by the company that cut them.

We drew the plans for the units ourselves and had them made to suit the size of the kitchen. From the start we knew that fitted units would look wrong in a room this size, so these freestanding, individual pieces of furniture fit the bill perfectly.

The island at the working end of the kitchen means that we have plenty of space to prepare meals without continually tripping over each other. The waste bins are two drop down doors at the end so clearing up is just a matter of sweeping everything over the edge and dropping it into the appropriate bin.

In this photograph, Deni is putting some champagne into the fridge for later, not sneaking a quick tipple in the middle of the day.
