Chambres & tables d'hote - Gites

What is there to do?

There is plenty to do in la Creuse as long as you are not looking for clubbing venues and all night parties. This is an area to relax and enjoy unspoilt countryside, take some exercise and enjoy some wonderful old buildings and museums.

Most of the forestry here is open access and there are good walking and biking trails all over. There are brocantes and vide-greniers if you are looking for a treasure to take home.

You can go sailing, canoeing, swimming at lac de Vassiviere and there are good golf courses, a ropes course, riding stables and the whole area is a fisherman's dream.

You will not find Parisian haute cuisine here but most restaurants use home grown or local produce so eating is a real pleasure.

la Creuse

la Creuse is described by French people as either, the jewel of France or the lost department. Both of these are a compliment because the area is so unspoilt and for the most part has not changed for about 50 years.

There are no large industrial areas, very little traffic and you have a population of about 125,000 people living in an area the size of Wales. This means about 7 people for every square kilometer, whereas in London its about 9,000 people per square kilometer.

Although it is so quiet here there is not a feeling of isolation, just peace and tranquility. Everyone is very friendly and always willing to help each other and also lost visitors.
