Chambres d’Hôtes & Gites
The Creuse is a paradise for walkers, with footpaths of all kind criss-crossing this beautiful countryside. From Chez Jallot’s doorstep you have access to kilometres of walking and running trails, from the sedate 20-minute stroll to give to you an appetite before dinner, to 3- or 4-day hikes following some of the official French long-distance footpaths. One of these, GR4, passes Chez Jallot only 500m up the road and around Lake Vassivière, there is a complete web of footpaths to explore. There is something to suit all levels of walker.
There are hidden treasures to find, flora & fauna to see and often history to unearth. As a family activity, geo-caching is also very popular and well-organised across the department (see Terra Aventura for more details) and can be incorporated into many of the walks. You can even hire a donkey (a favourite with families) and have it as a companion on your walk!
Each footpath below details the maps required, if any, however, I have a selection of maps here at Chez Jallot that I make available on loan. If you are considering a day-walk, then I am more than happy to provide picnics and depending upon how busy I am, if you would like to attempt a one-way path, I will certainly endeavour to provide a pick-up service for you.
Come and enjoy the walking the area has to offer…
The Creuse is by no means a mountainous area but walking the undulating countryside and forests will definitely be exercise. Forest tracks can be muddy and in places strewn with tree roots, so a pair of walking boots or ankle-supporting shoes are recommended for the longer paths.
