Below are some common questions and answers that you might be asking yourself whilst considering your holiday here at Chez Jallot. If you have any further questions that are not answered below please contact me either via email (info@chezjallot.com) or using the enquiry form and I will be happy to answer them.

  • Is Chez Jallot open all year round?

    Yes, I operate all year round, both in terms of the rooms in the house and the two gites in the barn.

  • How many rooms does Chez Jallot have & how many guests can it accommodate?

    There are 5 guest rooms in the house, which can cater for a total of 12 people. I can add a travel bed into the Hummingbird suite, an additional travel bed into the Vassivière family suite and 2 travel beds into the Master suite to cater for additional children if required. Additional travel beds cost €15 per night (including breakfast). The gites can cater for 4 people each.

  • Are young children welcomed at Chez Jallot?

    Young children are more than welcome to Chez Jallot. The garden is large for them to run around in and there is a child’s playhouse at one end of the garden.

  • What is the minimum length stay?

    The minimum stay in the house is 1 night. The pricing for the gites is based upon a 7-night stay, Saturday to Saturday; however, please contact me to discuss options and pricing if you wish to stay for a shorter or longer period in the gites.

  • Can I have exclusive use of Chez Jallot?

    Absolutely. I am more than happy to cater for large groups and can arrange various dining options and entertainment if required. Please contact me to discuss exclusive use, availability, pricing and options.

  • Am I able to bring my pet with me?

    Other than guide dogs, I do not allow any pets in the bedrooms or eating areas within the house.

    I accept well-behaved pets in the gites, provided they are cat and dog friendly, as I have a cat and a number of my close neighbours have cats, dogs and other animals that have to be taken into consideration. Please email or contact me if you have any questions.

  • What heating & cooling is provided in Chez Jallot?

    I have storage heaters throughout the house for heating, in addition to a log fire in the lounge. There are storage heaters in the Etable gite enabling to be used in the winter months, as well as a portable gas heater in each to add additional warmth if necessary. There is a supplemental €3.50 per day winter heating cost for each of the gites if used between the beginning of October and end of March, payable at the end of your stay. Chez Jallot is made from granite so remains cool through the summer so there is no need for air-conditioning.

  • Will I have access to any laundry facilities?

    There is a washing machine, dryer, ironing board and iron in a utility room in the barn, which is available to people staying in the gites. There is also an ironing board and iron in the house which is available on request. A clothesline is also available in the vegetable garden for drying clothes. Laundry facilities are available to house guests for a supplemental €5 cost per wash.

  • Will I have access to the Internet and if so are there any restrictions?

    I provide complementary WIFI access throughout the house and gites. However, due to the location of Chez Jallot, Internet connectivity can only be provided via satellite, thus upload/download speeds may be a bit slower than some may be used to. There is also a monthly data limit on data uploads/downloads, thus I ask guests to refrain from downloading movies and music and playing online games. Browsing the Internet, emails, Facebook, Twitter and the like is perfectly acceptable.

  • With Chez Jallot being in a rural setting, what is mobile phone reception like?

    There is mobile phone reception at Chez Jallot, however, due to local geography, the surrounding forests and a large granite walls in the way of mobile phone signal, there are places both in the house and the surrounding garden where the signal is blocked, so you will need to move around to find a signal from time to time. I hope this is not a big issue.

    If you are concerned with this and you have friends or family who have to get in touch with you whilst you are staying at Chez Jallot, then please do not hesitate to give them the house phone number (tel. +33 555 645 077) and I will be more than happy to pass on any messages. There is an answerphone on this number as well. In an emergency you are also able to use that phone for outgoing calls if necessary.

  • What options do I have if I am a smoker?

    For the comfort of all my guests, I operate a strict non-smoking policy throughout the Chez Jallot house and gites. Any offending guest may be asked to leave immediately (night or day).

    Smoking is permitted in a designated area of the garden and a cigarette bucket is provided in this area. Please note that smoking elsewhere in the garden, particularly during a dry period is a potential fire hazard for the surrounding woodland, so I ask those who do smoke outside, to please confine themselves to the designated smoking area.

  • Do I need to bring my own towels and toiletries?

    All towels are provided at Chez Jallot for guests staying in both the rooms and gites. Towels are refreshed in the rooms as necessary, unless otherwise requested. A fresh set of towels is provided for each guest in the gites and these will be refreshed as requested. A small set of toiletries is provided in each room and will be refreshed on a daily basis. No toiletries are provided in the gites.

  • Do I have use of the lounge in the house if staying at the gite?

    The lounge is available to all guests whether they are staying in the house or the gites. The only time when the lounge is not available is when I am providing evening meals to guests.

  • Do I have full access to the garden whilst staying at Chez Jallot?

    The whole garden is available to all guests (including the secret tunnel) to use and relax in.

  • Where is the nearest doctor & hospital to Chez Jallot?

    The nearest doctor can be found in Pontarion which is about 10 minutes drive from Chez Jallot and the nearest hospital with A&E services is in Guéret which is about 25-30 minutes drive away.

  • Is there a TV at Chez Jallot?

    There is a TV with a FREESAT satellite connection (UK channels only) in each of the gites and one in the Chez Jallot lounge. All TVs have DVD players and there is a selection of DVDs in the house from which DVDs can be borrowed as required.

  • I have some mobility challenges; can you cater for these?

    The guest rooms in the house are on the second and third floors of the building and can only be reached via flights of stairs, each with 17 steps. All stairs have a banister on the right hand side only. I do not have any specific disability aids in the bedrooms or associated en-suite bathrooms (other than a shower seat available upon request). The upper floor gite can only be reached via an outside set of 10 steps with railings on both sides. The ground floor gite can be accessed directly from outside without using stairs and a car can be driven around to the back of the barn to the door of the gite to offload. This gite can be accessed using a wheelchair. There is a rear entrance to the house, which does not require the use of steps, unlike the front door that has 7 steps up to it.

  • On arrival, what time can I have access to my room/gite?

    You will be able to check-in to either your room or gite from 3.00pm on the day of arrival.

  • What is the latest time I can arrive at Chez Jallot?

    You can arrive at Chez Jallot at any time; however, I do ask that you contact me to let us know if you will be arriving later than 7pm of an evening.

  • When do you need me to vacate my room/gite at the end of my stay?

    I ask that you please vacate your room or gite by 10.30am on your morning of departure. Changes to these times can be made if necessary but please can you discuss them with me in advance.

  • Am I required to share bathroom facilities with any other guests at Chez Jallot?

    No. All rooms in Chez Jallot have their own dedicated en-suite bathroom and each gite has its own bathroom.

  • How can I make a reservation to stay at Chez Jallot?

    Reservations can be made via email, letter or telephone. Contact details are provided at the top of each page of this website.

  • Do I need to pay a deposit to secure my booking?

    Rooms

    If the reservation is made more than 12 months prior to the booking, an initial 10% deposit is requested to secure the booking, followed by a further 30%, 12 months prior.

    If the reservation is made less than 12 months prior, a 40% deposit is requested to secure the booking.

    Until a deposit has been received, the booking cannot be guaranteed. The remaining balance must be paid in full at the end of your stay at Chez Jallot.

    Gites

    An initial 50% deposit will be requested to secure the booking, to be paid within 2 weeks of receiving a confirmation letter. The remaining 50% must be paid no later than 6 weeks prior to your arrival date. Should the total amount not be paid on time we reserve the right to cancel the reservation and retain the deposit.

    Reservations made 6 weeks or less before the arrival date must be paid in full on confirmation of the booking. The reservation is final only when the amount due has been received in full. Payment details are provided on the booking form.

  • Do I lose my deposit if I cancel my booking?

    If you decide to cancel your booking 3 months or more prior, your deposit will be fully refunded.

    If you cancel your booking between 3 months and 6 weeks prior, I reserve the right to retain 50% of the deposit and if you cancel less than 6 weeks prior or in the event of a no-show and you fail to notify me, I reserve the right to retain the full deposit. Should I get another booking to cover your cancellation then I will of course refund your deposit.

  • How can I pay the outstanding balance at the end of my stay?

    I ask that any balance or additional payments covering meals etc. should be made in cash (Euros only), via credit card (excluding American Express), via PayPal, or a French cheque at the end of your stay.

  • Can I give someone a gift certificate to allow them to stay at Chez Jallot?

    I am more than happy to provide gift certificates for a stay at Chez Jallot. Please contact me to discuss details.

  • Whereabouts is Chez Jallot?

    Chez Jallot is in the Creuse department of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, near to the small village of Vidaillat.

  • Do I need to have a car or are there other transport options?

    It is necessary to have a car if visiting Chez Jallot as it is in a rural environment and does not have any public transport links within walking distance. There are local bus links to Bourganeuf, Guéret and Aubusson but the nearest bus stop to Chez Jallot is in the village of St. Hilaire le Chateau which is 4km away, but this is a good hour’s walk.

  • Am I going to have any problems parking at Chez Jallot?

    I have more than enough off-road parking to accommodate guests cars, so there will be no problems. Please note that guests cars are left at their own risk.

  • Is there a swimming pool at Chez Jallot?

    I do not currently have a swimming pool at Chez Jallot.

  • Am I able to hire bikes whilst staying at Chez Jallot?

    I do not provide bikes for hire, but there are several bike hire companies in the area and I can help with arranging hire. See our Activities pages for more details.

  • What can I do whilst staying at Chez Jallot?

    The Creuse department within which Chez Jallot sits is full of interesting things to do and see. If you are energetic there are many activities open to you such as walking, rock climbing, cycling, mountain biking and fishing to name but a few. For those who want to take it easier, there are numerous old towns, markets and on those wet days, museums to visit. For the family, there are sandy beaches to be found around Lake Vassivière, animal parks such as the local wolf sanctuary or the bison park and for those who want to just sit back and relax, there is Chez Jallot’s own sunken garden, lawns and forest to enjoy.   • Can I have meals at Chez Jallot?

    All guests staying in the Chez Jallot’s rooms have breakfast included in the price of the room. This is a continental breakfast. I also offer table d’hôtes (evening meal) services. This is optional and available to all guests subject to seating availability. I currently cater for 16 seats. The evening meal costs €28 per person and includes aperitifs, 3-course meal, wines, tea and coffee. Please visit my Dining page for more details.

  • What options are there for eating out?

    There are several restaurants within easy driving distance of Chez Jallot offering good local food at a range of prices. I am more than happy to provide my own recommendations. Please visit my Eating Out page for more details.

  • Do you serve lunch at Chez Jallot?

    I do not as a rule serve lunch at Chez Jallot, however, I do offer picnics for you to take out on your day trips or walks into the surrounding countryside. These picnics range between €10 & €16 per person. Please see my Dining page for more details.

  • I am a vegetarian. Can you cater for my dietary requirements?

    I can certainly cater for most dietary requirements. All I ask is that you make me aware of these in advance in order that I can prepare as appropriate.

  • Can I cater for myself at Chez Jallot?

    Unless you are staying in one of our gites, I do not currently provide guests in the house with facilities to cater for themselves.

  • If I decide to eat with you of an evening, what will be on the menu?

    The table d’hôtes menu will start with aperitifs either in the lounge or outside on the patio, followed by a 3-course meal cooked using local produce or produce from Chez Jallot’s own vegetable garden and ending with tea and coffee as desired. Red, rosé and white wine is also provided as part of the €28 per person cost for the meal. I ask that you let me know by no later than breakfast on the day you wish to eat if you would like to join me for dinner.

  • Do you provide any basic foodstuffs in the gites?

    On arrival at your gite, you will find a welcome basket awaiting you containing some of those immediate foodstuffs needed for the first evening/morning at the gite. These will include; bread, butter, jam (sometimes homemade), milk, eggs, cheese and even a bottle of wine to open on the first evening. There will also be a supply of filter coffee, tea bags and sugar.
